Chermside & Districts Historical Society

The Chermside & Districts Historical Society is a community-based organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of the Chermside region in Brisbane, Queensland.

Founded in 1998, the society’s mission is to collect, research, and share the rich history of the area, including its people, places, and events.  

Key activities and resources:

  • Research: The society conducts research on various aspects of local history, such as family histories, early settlement, and significant events.
  • Collections: They maintain a collection of historical artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials related to the Chermside region. 
  • Publications: The society publishes books, articles, and newsletters to share their research findings with the community.  
  • Events: They organise historical walking tours, talks, and exhibitions to engage the public with the local history.
  • Community engagement: They collaborate with schools, libraries, and other community organisations to promote historical education and awareness.

Location: The Chermside & Districts Historical Society is located in the Chermside Historical Precinct, which includes the old Chermside State School building. This building serves as the society’s headquarters and archives centre, at 61 Kittyhawk Drive, Chermside, Qld.
