A Continuous Thread: the Lebanese presence in West End & South Brisbane

SOLD OUT

Join us as historian and author Dr Anne Monsour and the Australian Lebanese Historical Society present a guided walking tour of West End and South Brisbane highlighting the Lebanese presence, influence and legacy since the 1880s.

This fascinating walk uncovers stories of the ‘Syrian’ hawkers and shopkeepers of the nineteenth century through the twentieth century to the present day, highlighting stories of entrepreneurs, hard work, community spirit and family businesses many of which are household names in Brisbane.

The event concludes with a tour of St Clement’s Melkite Catholic Church (74 Ernest St, South Brisbane) and a morning tea of Lebanese sweets.

Meeting point: Hardgrave Street, West End (precise meeting location and how to get there to be advised to ticket holders).

Physical rating: Medium (uneven surfaces).

This event is also part of the 2022 Australian Heritage Festival.
