A Stained Glass Treasure – Brisbane’s Warwick Blair

Book launch at St John's Cathedral.

St John’s Cathedral is launching a book: The Career and Selected Works of Queensland Artist-in-Glass Warwick Blair (1943-2002) by Denzil Scrivens.

Warwick Blair was Brisbane’s leading stained glass artist of the 1980s and 1990s.

In a career lasting less than 20 years, Blair created thousands of stained glass windows in Brisbane. His best known work is the great Millennium Window at St John’s unveiled by the Queen in 2002.

But Blair created many other extraordinary windows in private homes, retail settings, schools, hospitals, churches and chapels, excelling in both heritage and contemporary styles.

His windows are noteworthy for their brilliant tone colours and use of rare antique, patterned and textured glass of which he had an unrivalled collection in Queensland.

The renaissance of Brisbane’s stained glass industry in the 1980s arguably owed more to Warwick Blair than to any other artist.

Speakers at the book launch will be Queensland designer Dr Jennifer Andrews and Brisbane physician and artist Dr Wendell Rosevear OAM.

RSVP denzil.scrivens@bigpond.com or text 0409 641 186 by 30 March 2022.

Proof of COVID vaccination is required to attend the event.
