Meet Elisabeth Wheeler

Free event at New Farm Library.

Author Elisabeth Wheeler, will trace the history of the foundations of the O’Connor schools and Duporth and why it became a leading boarding and day school for girls in Brisbane and Queensland.

Sharing rarely seen photographs of Janet O’Connor (first principal of Brisbane Girls Grammar School in 1875), the Duporth students and staff, and rare art by Duporth teachers and students.

Elisabeth will also share the story of Dame Nellie Melba’s close friendship with the O’Connors of Duporth.

For those interested in local history, the socio-cultural and educational history of women’s education, you will be fascinated by the stories and research author, archivist, librarian and teacher Elisabeth Wheeler will share.

Books will be available for purchase on the day, or bring your copy from home to be signed.
