Oral History Workshop
This is an introductory workshop and would suit people who are commencing an oral history project. It is appropriate for anyone with an interest in oral history, family and local histories.
For family historians, being able to capture and preserve the voices of family members for future generations is something very precious. Hear their voice, their accents, their laugh, will make them real people for the listener. Future generations will have more than just photographs. They may have the sound of their ancestor’s voice and could also have videos.
“I often say, ‘You mightn’t know your great-grandmother’s story, but make sure your great-granddaughter knows yours’.” – Alana Johnson.
The workshop will be facilitated by Elisabeth Gondwe who is the current president of Oral History Queensland. She has a Master of Arts in Anthropology and Archaeology from James Cook University. Elisabeth has worked as an oral historian for the past 30 years and brings a strong oral history focus to her role as the curator at the North Stradbroke Island Museum on Minjerribah. Elisabeth has designed and delivered many community oral history projects. With her museum background, Elisabeth specialises in audio archiving, access and intellectual property protocols.
Participants should bring pens, paper and audio recorder if you have one, or a smartphone.
