Exhibition opening – Shifting Shores: Redcliffe’s beautiful beaches

Our Story Live:

Beaches, bathing beauties and boarding houses

Join us for this special presentation by Judith Nissen to mark the opening of our new exhibition Shifting shores: Redcliffe’s beautiful beaches.

Boats between Brisbane, Sandgate and Redcliffe brought visitors; others braved the torturous road eastwards from Petrie. All arrived on these shores to take the sea air, bathe in the calm waters, and to enjoy the various entertainments on offer.

Those wanting more than a day trip could choose from accommodation offerings ranging from camping in tents, to a variety of flats, guest houses and hotels. And, of course, the visitors had to be fed and watered!

Guest speaker Judith Nissen will present illustrated stories of Redcliffe as a holiday destination since the late 1800s.

After the event, explore the Shifting Shores: Redcliffe’s beautiful beaches exhibition.

About the speaker

Judith Nissen is a professional freelance historian specialising in researching Queensland history. She studied history at the University of Queensland, including a thesis on Brisbane’s shopping arcades.

During her childhood and teenage years Judith lived at Woody Point. Judith was delighted to be asked to document the social history of Redcliffe from the late 19th century until the 2008 council amalgamations.

Redcliffe Museum is open Wednesday to Friday 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Saturday – Sunday 10:00 AM – 3:00PM.
