Secrets from Cherbourg: The Ration Shed

The Secrets: Objects of Intrigue exhibition now on display at Queensland Museum Kurilpa, includes objects on loan from The Ration Shed Museum. Children’s toys, recently discovered under the floorboards of the boys’ dormitory building, on the site of the Cherbourg State Aboriginal Settlement, are part of the site’s untold stories and secrets that reflect its history as an Aboriginal settlement, controlled by the Aboriginal Protection Act.

In this panel discussion, members of The Ration Shed Museum and Cherbourg community Elders share some of their stories and experiences from the past, discussing the ongoing impact and resilience of the community. Join us for tea, coffee and a yarn following the talk.

Queensland Museum would like to advise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples this panel discussion may contain stories of people who have passed, and detail experiences that some audience members may find confronting or triggering.
