The historic Albert Railway Bridge connecting Brisbane and Ipswich

Guest speaker, Andrew Darbyshire will speak about the history of the Albert Railway Bridge.

The first Albert Bridge on the site was completed in June 1876 and enabled the main railway line to be extended from Ipswich to Brisbane. Prior to this the river was a huge obstacle to this connection and a river boat service linked the two sides of the river. The history of the connection and the bridge has had its tumultuous times with the 1893 flood destroying the initial bridge, the capsize of one of the subsequent ferries and the design and construction of the second and current Albert Bridge.
Come along and hear about the fascinating story of this heritage listed bridge which is linked to important events and figures in Brisbane’s history.
