Friends of South Brisbane Cemetery

The beautiful and historical South Brisbane Cemetery is a wooded riverside park, a sacred place, and an outdoor museum all in one. It opened in May 1870 and is the oldest surviving burial ground in Brisbane.

The Friends of South Brisbane Cemetery (Inc.) is a not-for-profit group that organises popular guided tours in the cemetery (day and night), and also the community ‘Guardian Angel’ grave-cleaning days. We do extensive research and recording of the cemetery history and heritage fabric and can help with queries.

We encourage the public to enjoy exploring the thousands of fascinating headstones, and take in the special atmosphere of this heritage-listed cemetery.
